Two of Kenya’s biggest stadiums, the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani and Nyayo National Stadium, are still unfit to host any international match. This is after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) omitted the two grounds from the list of CAF pre-approved stadiums for the 2022/2023 interclub football campaign. The news of the omission comes as no surprise as the African football governing body had in 2021 banned Kasarani and Nyayo from being used after failing to meet the threshold.Kenya does NOT have a stadium that meets CAF standards to host CAF inter-club competitions. May it be Champions League, Confederation Cup or the upcoming African Super League. pic.twitter.com/t6LjHDb559— Eric Njiru (@EricNjiiru) August 10, 2022 In the letter that had been addressed to FKF CEO Barry Otieno, CAF stated that Kasarani had failed to meet the minimum set requirements.“Based on the inspection report, we regret to inform you that the stadium did not meet the set minimum CAF Stadium requirements and consequently will not be approved for the qualifying matches,” read the letter.“Unfortunately, following the temporary approvals given by CAF for the use of the stadium in CAF competitions, the stadium still lacks several CAF criteria and requirements in order to properly host international matches.”##NAJAVA_MECA_6557657##Nyayo had initially been outlawed to hold international matches mainly due to lack of floodlights among other issues. The omission means that should Kenya, miraculously, get their FIFA suspension lifted, no international encounters, including CAF interclub games, can be held in the country.Elsewhere, all of Kenya’s East Africa Community neighbours, barring Burundi and South Sudan, all had at least one stadium meeting the international standard.Frank Odhiambo shipped out on loan by DjurgårdenDemocratic Republic of Congo – Stade du TP Mazembe (Artificial) and Complexe Omnisports Stade des Martyrs (Artificial)Ethiopia – Bahir Dar Stadium (Natural)Uganda – St. Mary’s Stadium (Artificial)Tanzania – Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium (Natural) and Azam Complex (Artificial)Rwanda – Huye Stadium (Artificial)
