Goalkeeping nightmare! Teenagers help Dortmund come from behind to win at Freiburg

Former Manchester City youngster Jamie Bynoe-Gittens scored his first goal in senior football thanks to a terrible goalkeeper’s mistake, and Youssoufa Moukoko turned the game on its head to give BVB a somewhat unexpected victory over Freiburg in a fiery duel in the south of Germany. Marius Wolf added the third to complete a fantastic night for the noisy away supporters.

The home team looked good value for three points, but a jaw-dropping mistake from their goalkeeper Mark Flekken allowed 17-year-old Englishman Bynoe-Gittens to record his first senior goal. The goal gave wings to the yellow-blacks, who scored another two goals to complete the turnaround and give the match a deceivingly high scoreline despite being on the back foot for most of the game.Freiburg won their first match of the season by thrashing Augsburg 4-0 and were full of confidence from the first second of their Friday night clash with Borussia Dortmund.

Early attempts from Christian Gunter and a penalty shout after Thomas Meunier seemed to have handled in his box were rewarded ten minutes before the break when Michael Gregoritsch angled a header over Georg Kobel and into the far corner. The same player also opened the scoring against his previous club Augsburg last week. It’s a solid start of the season for the 28-year-old Austrian international, who has only just joined the club.Dortmund’s new signing Anthony Modeste was lively and keen to prove himself upon his recent arrival from Koln. However, none of his three first-half attempts were good enough to beat Flekken.

Jude Bellingham demonstrated Edin Terzic’s team nerves by earning himself a booking for a reckless sliding tackle that took out Roland Sallai. Young centre-back Nico Schlotterbeck who joined Dortmund from Freiburg just a couple of months ago for $25 million, repeated Bellingham’s trick and floored Ritsu Doan, much to the bewilderment of his former coach Christian Streich.Terzic sent Youssoufa Moukoko on for Donyell Malen with 20 minutes remaining as the visitors struggled to carve out any goalscoring chances at the Mooswaldstadion. It was to prove an inspired decision.

Streich’s men have covered plenty of ground as they have largely frustrated last season’s Bundesliga runners-up, but frustration doesn’t even come to describe their goalkeeper’s howler from Bynoe-Gittens’ long-range effort. Substitute Yousuffa Moukoko gave Dortmund the lead after Bynoe-Gittens and fellow substitute Julian Brandt combined well on the edge of the area. Moukoko walloped the ball beyond Flekken to make it 2-1. Just a few minutes later, Wolf dispatched a left-footer into the net to send the yellow-blacks, situated in the Mooswaldstadion corner.BUNDESLIGA – MATCHDAY 2Friday Freiburg – Dortmund 1-3 (1-0)/Gregoritsch 35 – Bynoe-Gittens 77, Moukoko 84, Wolf 88/Saturday16.30: (1.35) Leverkusen (5.60) Augsburg (9.00)16.30: (3.15) Hertha (3.40) Eintr.Frankfurt (2.40)16.30: (1.65) Hoffenheim (4.10) Bochum (5.60)16.30: (1.48) RB Leipzig (4.50) Koln (7.75)16.30: (2.40) Werder (3.40) Stuttgart (3.15)19.30: (3.15) Schalke (3.50) M’ gladbach (2.35)Sunday 16.30: (2.35) Mainz (3.30) Union Berlin (3.35)18.30: (1.15) Bayern (10.0) Wolfsburg (18.0)***odds are subject to change
