Arsenal host Leicester without 7 first team players

After a fruitful transfer window which is not over yet, Arsenal executives (and fans) are more than happy with the quality of the squad as well as the dept. But that doesn’t mean that coach Mikel Arteta is any more relaxed than before. Maybe he doesn’t have to worry about one certain position if the player is injured, since he has another player, but he will now have a problem with trimming the squad. In fact, it has been a problem since last week’s game 1, as now he has a choice to make – he needs to leave out 7 first-team players. ⏪ Last time out against Leicester…#ARSLEI pic.twitter.com/7AndwFi2ZM— Arsenal (@Arsenal) August 13, 2022 Just as he sold Lucas Torreira to Galatasaray and loaned Pablo Mari to Monza, a trio of Emile Smith Rowe, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Fabio Vieira came back to training ahead of the Leicester match. Arteta is unlikely to throw them into the fire straight away. But they will probably be on the bench, which means that with them three back, it will be a 27-man first team squad, and on match days, there are only 20 players who can make it to the pitch and on the bench. If we don’t count the third keeper Alex Runarsson or Reiss Nelson who is injured, players like Cedric Soares, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Mohamed Elneny, Rob Holding and Marquinhos could all be in the stands instead on the bench and Arteta will have to make a call. Why is the richest club in the world below Forest and Leeds in spending? This will be a stark contrast for the visitors will come in almost full force but with no new signings so far, apart from a 32-year-old free agent reserve keeper from Cardiff. Harvey Barnes, who has a knee injury, and Ricardo Pereira, who is out for six months due to an Achilles tendon injury, will not play, but the problems with the squad remain. It’s all gloomy at the moment in Leicester, as they have financial difficulties and will only buy if they sell somebody. Currently, the fans are hoping that Newcastle won’t come back with the third offer for the star player James Maddison, and that a fuss about Wesley Fofana will go away. They can be only happy with the fact that striker Jamie Vardy will sign a new contract, and nothing else. It didn’t last long: Willian is back from BrazilLeicester will arrive at the Emirates today with a poor draw (2:2) against Brentford at their King Power Stadium last week. The Gunners have had a dominant status over Leicester in recent years and are on a three-game winning streak with only one goal conceded. It could be said that the Foxes are becoming regular customers of Arsenal, and in this century at the Emirates Stadium, Leicester as a guest managed to celebrate and draw only once. At the start of the season, the team from London thrilled with a victory against city rival Crystal Palace, and William Saliba got the chance to make his debut after three years and was immediately selected as the player of the match. Accustomed to disappointments year after year, Arsenal supporters are still not allowed to dream big, but Mikel Arteta seems to have finally put together a team to his liking.
