Mathare United forward Daniel ‘Van Persie’ Otieno has crossed over to Posta Rangers days after announcing that he will not be continuing with the Slum Boys.Otieno has been with Mathare since 2019 when he signed from the side from the now defunct Sony Sugar. He has been a key player for them since and is best remembered for the role he played in helping them remain in the top tier during the 2020/21 season.They were however not second time lucky as they did not finish the 2021/22 season and were subsequently relegated from the first tier. A number of players have already walked out. Meshack Muyonga, Alphonse Ndonye, Eugene Wethuli, and Norman Ogola have joined Kakamega Homeboyz while Ken Ochieng who has since terminated his contract with the club is training with KCB.Otieno has now completed a move to Posta, becoming the club’s first off-season signing. Posta chairman John Tonui has confirmed his arrival while describing him as a good addition to his squad.”It is true we have signed Otieno from Mathare United. He is now our player. His quality is there for everyone to see, he has been consistent for the last few years and we are confident that he will bring some positive quality to the team,” he stated.the club has also been linked with former Kariobangi Sharks keeper Brandon Obiero and ex-City Stars winger Rodgers Okumu and according to Tonui, they are in talks with more players.”We are in talks with a couple of other players. We have identified some good players for signing and once we conclude talks, we will unveil them,” he added.The club already released five players. They are; Timothy Wanyanga, Victor Ndinya, Victor Majid, Jairus Adira and David Ochieng.
