Klopp amazed with early Darwin, Haaland critics

Even thou he is a veteran in the football business (29 years as a player and 21 as a coach), Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp still cannot understand some things and one of them is the amount of judgement aimed at new, young players from the fanbase. He is obviously thinking about his latest addition – striker Darwin Nunez, who came to Liverpool in this transfer window with great expectations, but struggled a bit during the pre-season matches.Jurgen Klopp on the early criticism of Darwin Nunez: “Five weeks ago, when we started pre-season and he had his first game and it didn’t look great from the outside world. Not for us, but it’s crazy how quick we judge people… wow!” #lfc [sky] pic.twitter.com/eZUaU5vcs8— Anfield Watch (@AnfieldWatch) August 15, 2022 The Uruguayan striker was however quick to settle, as he scored one and assisted with the second Liverpool goal in last week’s draw with Fulham (2-2), and he was not even named a starter. And Klopp quickly pointed out his early critics.“Five weeks ago, when we started pre-season and he had his first game and it didn’t look great from the outside world. “It’s crazy how quick we judge people… wow! Imagine if somebody did that to us and said, ‘First day of work, it didn’t work out. Go home, we never want to see you again! And you don’t get a second chance by the way’ – we would have all been long gone! No chance” said Klopp to Soccer Saturday.Klopp wants everyone to stay cool amid Thiago’s injuryLiverpool boss explained that everybody needs time to adjust to the squad and the teammates and compared Nunez’s treatment to Haaland’s after the win over Manchester City in the Community Shield.“Everybody can now see, ‘Ah he’s a proper striker’ – so good for us and good for him. You can’t say, ‘Come on, you have to give me 100 per cent immediately’ – you have to develop it and that’s what we’re doing at the moment and in a good way. It’s funny as well, we won against Manchester City the week before the season and everybody was asking, ‘will Haaland score this and that?’ A week is like 10 years in football!” said the German.Jordan Henderson on team spirit: “We will definitely need it against a Crystal Palace team that impressed everyone last season under Patrick Vieira. Their development as a team was one of the stories of the season.” #lfc [lfc] pic.twitter.com/YbchyiBurm— Anfield Watch (@AnfieldWatch) August 14, 2022 Another topic ahead of the Crystal Palace match was an injury crisis in midfield. Thiago Alcantara has been ruled out for up to six weeks with a hamstring injury after the game with Fulham, and the Reds are already without Curtis Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, while Naby Keita may play, but is not ready for all 90 minutes, so Klopp all but ruled out any new signing.“If there was the right player and an opportunity, we would have done it, we would do it, but I don’t see it because we had a lot of conversations already and it doesn’t look like something will happen. I’m happy with the strength, size and quality of my squad but we have injuries. There are plenty of solutions for it. One of them is the transfer market, but that only makes sense if you can bring in the right player. All the other solutions are inside the squad. We have too many injuries, that’s clear. Naby will be back for the game and Kostas Tsimikas will train for the first time so he might be back as well” said Klopp.PREMIER LEAGUE – MATCHDAY 2SaturdayAston Villa – Everton 2-1 (1-0)/Ings 31, Buendia 85 – Digne 87 og/Arsenal – Leicester 4-2 (2-0)/Jesus 22, 35, Xhaka 55, Martinelli 75 – Saliba 53 og, Maddison 74/Brighton – Newcastle 0-0Manchester City – Bournemouth 4-0 (3-0)/Gundogan 19, De Bruyne 31, Foden 37.
