Nyamweya, Musonye want Transition Committee’s mandate extended

Former FKF president Sam Nyamweya and former Cecafa Secretary General Nicholas Musonye want the mandate of the FKF Transition Committee extended to avert the possibility of there being a ‘vacuum’ in the management of football the country. The mandate of the body that is headed by Moses Oyugi with journalist Linda Ogutu serving as the head of secretariat ends today. They have been in charge of football since November 2021 when FKF was disbanded initially as the FKF Caretaker Committee and later as the transition committee.##NAJAVA_MECA_6563994##With the Sports Ministry set to have a new Cabinet Secretary after the General Elections whose outcome will be announced on Tuesday, there is likely to be a vacuum in the management of football as it is unclear whether the outgoing Sports CS Amina Mohamed will extend the term of the transition committee whose formation resulted in Kenya being suspended by FIFA in February. The suspension resulted in Kenya missing out on WAFCON in Morocco, 2023 AFCON qualifiers, 2023 CHAN qualifiers, the CECAFA Women Championship while Tusker and Vihiga Queens, the league winners were locked out of continental football.Musonye and Nyamweya now argue that the term of the committee should be extend before the next sports CS is appointed.“This is the only viable option. If the term if the committee is not extended then there will be a leadership vacuum,” Nyamweya told the Nation.Musonye, a long serving CECAFA SG shares the same sentiments.“The government must ensure there is no vacuum. The term of the Transition Committee should be extended for a month to allow the next government to set the road map on how our football will run.”Ex-Sofapaka duo bag first title in Rwanda
