Injured and without a game since 2021, Gyan wants to go to Qatar

Remember Roger Milla? The legendary Cameroonian footballer took his part in two World Cups (Italy 1990 and USA 1994) and in the first one he already was 38-years old, while he broke the record as the oldest players ever to appear at World Cup’s (42) in 1994. He eventually became a roll model for every player around the globe who is on the wrong side of the thirties, especially the African ones, and Asamoah Gyan is one of them. The country’s all-time record goalscorer, and Africa’s top goalscorer at the World Cup finals is preparing for his fourth World Cup for Ghana. But, there is a catch: he hasn’t talk to anybody about his idea of coming back, certainly not with the coach Otto Addo or technical director Chris Hughton, and he hasn’t played a club football match in over a year!36-year-old Asamoah Gyan says he wants to play at the World Cup for Ghana, where they will face Uruguay in their group.Make. The World Cup is every footballer’s dream. I think I’ve got a bit of energy left in me to prove myself once again. I’ve been out for almost two years now due to injuries but I just need to get my body back in shape. It’s an eight-week programme and according to my physical instructor I’m improving faster than he thought“ he told the BBC World Service.CAF members to back Gianni Infantino’s re-elation bid – MotsepeGyan has scored 51 goals for Ghana, and six of those have come at the World Cup, where he featured in 2006, 2010 and 2014. He would love to continue the streak and participate in his fourth World Cup, but he decided to announce his wish to the BBC World Service rather to the coach and sporting director.„Honestly I haven’t spoken to anybody at all. It’s part of the plan. I just want to make sure I see how my body reacts first. I just need to get to some level and then I can say I’m ready. Everything looks positive, so we’ll see what happens. There might be a surprise” he said.All-African Team of the Week in Top 5 LeaguesAs we said at the beginning, Gyan is a big Roger Milla fan, so the fact that he will be 37 years old two days before a World Cup game against Portugal (if he makes it to the squad) is of no concern to him.„I haven’t announced my retirement. Anything can happen, you know. It’s happened before, talking about Cameroon in 1994, with Roger Milla coming back from retirement to play in a World Cup” he reminded everyone.Gyan has extra motivation to return, as Ghana is in the group with Uruguay, who famously knocked down Ghana in the quarterfinals in 2010. Luis Suarez, was red carded in extra time, but Gyan missed the penalty and sent both team to the penalties from which Uruguayans came victorious (4-2).”The whole world knows what happened. When the draw was made and they saw Uruguay in Ghana’s group in Qatar the only thing that came into mind was revenge. Ghanaians want revenge. Personally, I just sat back and smiled because I understand how the game goes. What happened in 2010 is behind me but maybe there might be another opportunity” admits Gyan. Let’s wait and see what Otto Addo has to say about this.##NAJAVA_MECA_6575468##
