Almost two months have passed since Newcastle United signed a player in this season’s transfer market. They have spent around 40 million euros on a long awaited defender Sven Botman from Lille on June 28th and nothing happened since. The Magpies of course wanted to add two more players, preferably a winger and a striker, but faced problems. One of them is the tight budget, and the other is other team’s perception of Newcastle as the rich club who can pay whatever the price is, and the Magpies just don’t want to do that. Their prime offensive target was Moussa Diaby from Bayer Leverkusen, but the sum was too much, while Hugo Etikite’s agent kept dragging the negotiations and raised the price while waiting PSG to make a move. So, for most of July, Newcastle asked around and seen their top targets being overpriced.Exclusive: Newcastle United interested in Chelsea quartet including Christian Pulisic @LukeEdwardsTele #NUFC https://t.co/f4LSmZp4Ic— Telegraph Football (@TeleFootball) August 16, 2022 So, with just two weeks left in the transfer window, coach Eddie Howe and the sporting sector have decided to move for one player and loan the other, thus fulfilling their plan of getting two offensive players, but not spending too much in the process. With whomever they end up with will be from their B list of targets. And according to a reliable Telegraph, the Magpies have asked Chelsea to keep them informed about four potential players: Christian Pulisic, Armando Broja, Conor Gallagher and Callum Hudson-Odoi. Out of those four, only Gallagher is a central midfielder, but Jojo Shelvey has been injured so the Magpies are looking for a potential loan in that department too. Other players are either wingers or strikers and sporting director Dan Ashworth has asked Chelsea about the availability for the loan. Why is the richest club in the world below Forest and Leeds in spending? And while the Chelsea quartet is being monitored, another player is also on Howe’s radar, but this time, an official bid has been made (and turned down immediately): Joao Pedro. A member of the relegated Watford, the young Brazilian ticks a lot of boxes for the Magpies. He is only 20 years old, has experience of playing in the Premier League, and has Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton as his fellow Brazilians who could help his set in immediately. He can play in all positions up front, from striker to winger. Magpies need a one winger and also a good cover for a striker since Callum Wilson is often injured (only 18 games last season), while Chris Wood was a desperate buy in January. Former Burnley forward played 18 games and scored only 2 goals last season. But Pedro has a long term contract and the Hornets are not in a need to sell, so they flat refused the first offer of around 20 million euros and are asking for 35 million. Another extorsion, but if the Magpies can pull off one loan deal from Chelsea, they can afford to pay that sum for Pedro.##NAJAVA_MECA_6573817##
