The 2009 league champions Sofapaka have named Burundian centre back David Nshimirimana as the new captain following the exit of Lawrence Juma.Juma ditched Sofapaka hardly two years after his arrival for Rwandese side AS Kigali leaving the club with no options other than to ring changes in the leadership of the playing unit. Sofapaka team manager Hillary Echesa confirmed that Nshimirimana had been bestowed the responsibility to lead his teammates with the long serving left back Titus Achesa assisting him. “Nshimirimana is our new club captain now that Juma is no longer with us. He has demonstrated in the past that he is equal to the task and his discipline on and off the pitch is good. Achesa will be deputizing him,” he said. The elevation of Nshimirimana to the rank of skipper doesn’t come as a surprise as he served as Juma’s deputy in the past season. Nshimirimana and Okola’s partnership at Sofapaka earns glowing plauditsThe former Buildcon defender joined Batoto Ba Mungu in February last year and has been a key pillar in the club’s defense as he can play either as a centre or a right back. Besides announcing the new captain, Sofapaka have confirmed that immediate former Kibera Black Stars head coach Paul Ogai will be the their assistant coach. Ogai who is not new to top flight football having coached Western Stima before will be assisting David Ouma who has been in charge of the club since February.
