Is Wazito FC still in existence? That is probably the question the players and technical bench members at the club are asking with the club yet to resume training a fortnight before the new season commences. The team, that battled to retain its topflight status via the playoff after seeing off Murang’a Seal FC is yet to resume training, and having lost a big chunk of their players everything points at relegation of the team when the new season starts on 10th September and eventual disbandment unless things change in the next few days or weeks.##NAJAVA_MECA_6596477##On 11th August, the club’s board of directors issued a statement announcing that they had pulled out of the league until the wrangles being witnessed in Kenyan football are resolved. Kenya is currently under a FIFA suspension after the government disbanded the federation and installed a caretaker committee that has since been renamed the transition committee.“We can confirm that we will not be taking part in next season’s Football Kenya Federation Premier League until the confusion surrounding football in the country is resolved,” read the statement from the Directors.”The push and pull in the game has made it difficult for investors to pump money into the game, and it is our hope that the issue is resolved as soon as possible. The club will not make any further comments on the subject.”Media Update#Wazito4life pic.twitter.com/HWnEyAOEBc— Wazito Football Club (@wazitofc) August 11, 2022 The players and technical bench members are in the dark about the future of the club and their own futures. Club assistant captain Eli Asieche says they do not understand what is happening at the club.“There is no communication yet from the team club owner and we do not know where the team is headed. We are yet to commence our pre-season and we do not know what’s happening, we now wait and see what will happen next,” he said in an interview with Radio Jambo. The midfielder further disclosed that they have not been paid their dues for the last six months and wishes that it can be settled.“The last communication that we got from the management was that the club had suspended training until further notice. On enquiring further, we were told that the boss had decided to halt sponsoring the team until normalcy is restored in Kenya football. We wish things were clearer because we have not been paid for six months now and it is said because we have bills to pay and our wish is that we at least get paid the dues that we have worked for,” he added.FKF Management Committee convene meeting with all football stakeholdersFounded in 2011 initially as a recreation team at the University of Nairobi, Wazito FC’s fortunes appeared to have changed for the better in 2018 when it was acquired by Swedish billionaire Ricardo Badoer. He splashed the cash to acquire some of the best talents in and outside the country but things started to go south in 2021 when players’ salaries started to delay.
