New Gor Mahia head coach draws praise from maverick midfielder Macharia

Newly appointed Gor Mahia head coach Johnathan McKinstry might be just one month old into his new work station at the record Kenyan champions but the Northern Irishman has already drawn plenty of praise among his players since taking over.Towards the tail end of July 2022, the 37 year old was named as the man to lead K’Ogalo for the next two years after the team opted not to renew the services of former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) technical director Andreas Spier, who had been in charge for a short six months.🟢 | NEW COACH Coach Jonathan McKinstry penned a two-year deal and we welcome him to Gor Mahia. #Sirkal pic.twitter.com/gsSH3uSDN6— GOR MAHIA FC (@OfficialGMFC) July 29, 2022 Immediately after his appointment, McKinstry started laying the foundation at the 19 time Kenyan champions and technically gifted midfielder John Macharia has already been left impressed by what he has seen so far from the former Uganda Cranes head coach.“The coach is really focused on improving the players he has found at the team. His philosophy is about keeping the ball and using it to hurt the opposition. Right from training, he wants us to play well and despite it being early days, you can see that there is a clear pattern he wants is to follow which I really like,” the player told Mozzart Sport.Gor Mahia put five past opponent in pre-season friendly as senior players make comeback“He does not care which team you play against, big or small. He wants us to always be on the front foot and score goals in the match. I would be lying if I say that I have not been excited so far,” the player added.During his appointment, the vastly experienced McKinstry, who has worked with the Sierra Leone, Rwanda and Uganda national teams, pointed out that his mission was to ensure that Gor Mahia get back to their hey days during his time in charge as the club have failed to lift a league title in two consecutive seasons for the first time in the last ten campaigns.“There can be no doubt that the last couple of years will have been deeply frustrating for everyone associated with the club, as results have not matched the expectations of this great club.##NAJAVA_MECA_6596448##We will be doing everything within our power to rectify that not only for this season, but also to lay strong foundations that will allow for the return of a sustained period of success in the club’s history,” he stated. If Macharia’s assessment is anything to go by, then the club’s loyal fanbase should be synchronizing their celebratory tunes come the end of the 2022/2023 season penciled to kick off in September.
