Fan Opinion: Has Thomas Tuchel been exposed after shaky start?

By Sam Gitahi.Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is once again in the thick of things after yet another loss in his first five games of the new season, this time falling to a youthful Southampton side at the Saint Mary’s Stadium on Tuesday night. Two losses in five, back to back away defeats, eight goals conceded in four games, away loss to Southampton since 2013 and the worst start to a premier league season since the Frank Lampard era isn’t the type of record that Chelsea fans were looking forward to this early into the new season.2 – Chelsea have lost at least two of their opening five games to a Premier League campaign for just the second time in 27 seasons, after losing three of their first five in 2015-16 – eventually finishing 10th place that year. Ominous. pic.twitter.com/qmQIoBJy3z— OptaJoe (@OptaJoe) August 30, 2022 In a league where ‘money talks’ and hugely influences a club’s direction of travel, this at the moment doesn’t seem to apply to Chelsea after a fairly busy dive into the transfer market with endless cash thanks to Todd Boehly.Slow, indecisive and toothless would best fit Chelsea’s style of play thus far, with their best performance coming at home against Tottenham Hotspurs in a game where they couldn’t win anyway! It is clear that Chelsea needs a guy who could stick balls at the back of the net rather than the boring deflections around ‘our bench is not strong enough’ and ‘next question please’ by Tuchel when asked about the lack of a focal point in attack at the end of matches.🗣️ “We are not tough enough.”Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel reacts to their 2-1 defeat against Southampton tonight 💬 pic.twitter.com/Jpug25gM17— Sky Sports News (@SkySportsNews) August 30, 2022 Chelsea indeed needed new names in defense after numerous departures in the off season but shouldn’t the focus be more on finally sorting out the attack?Tuchel has over the years at Chelsea proved to be a defensively oriented manager but it should be quite alarming how ‘meritocracy’ lacks in his wordbook when it comes to player selections and the proven inability to integrate strikers in his never adaptive system.▪️ Two losses in three games▪️ Transfer targets Anthony Gordon and Wilfried Zaha both score▪️ Former striker Timo Werner scores a hat trickHow Chelsea fans are feeling 😐 pic.twitter.com/RKUUaZpzn7— B/R Football (@brfootball) August 30, 2022 Romelu Lukaku, Tammy Abraham and Timo Werner are the few names that standout in the latter category and with almost every attacking player either performing way below their standards or demotivated to the extent of sticking a foot out of the club, Chelsea look to be playing catchup in a league dominated by effective goal getters and only holding on to the belief that ‘our defenders will sort us out.’Reece James, Thiago Silva and Raheem Sterling are the only names deserving of starts in the Chelsea team sheet but it is the constant ‘awarding’ of Jorginho and Kai Havertz by Tuchel that is angering Blues’ fans given the depth available in players like Armando Broja and Carney Chukwuemeka in their ‘down to the bare bones bench’ as per Tuchel.##NAJAVA_MECA_6606544##Given the high standards set in his first months in charge, Tuchel went an entire season without a domestic title (lucky to have kept his job) and without any adaptability in systems to accommodate attackers or lack of preference in fronting up players in attacking positions. With hours left till the summer transfer window shuts down, Chelsea will struggle to find goals and wins to at the moment pull the manager out of the deep mire and pressure cooker that he is in!Looks at the manager’s sack race!
