Marco Richter scored his first goal since recovering from treatment for a testicular tumour to seal Hertha Berlin’s first win of the season as it beat Augsburg 2-0 in the Bundesliga on Sunday.Richter had made his first appearance since undergoing treatment. To make things sweeter, he scored against his former club, having graduated from the Augsburg youth team.
The 24-year-old winger went one better against his former club Augsburg, tapping home from close range after Davie Selke had unselfishly passed the ball to him to finish off a counterattack and wrap up the match in stoppage time.Dodi Lukebakio had previously headed in Marvin Plattenhardt’s cross in the 57th minute for the opening goal.
It was a duel of two pretty terrible teams in Augsburg, but the result was welcomed by Hertha’s new coach Sandro Schwarz, who was given the task of avoiding another relegation scrap. And even though their season started terribly, they’ve at least got something to build on now.Only Hertha had scored fewer Bundesliga goals in their first four games this season than Augsburg coming into this fixture, and the lack of cutting edge was clear to see here.
