You Pirates beware – PSG eager to get back on top of the league

After a near-perfect start to the defence of their Ligue 1 title, Paris Saint-Germain continued their strong run of form with a 2-1 victory over Juventus in their opening Champions League group game on Tuesday. And today, the Saints will be looking to get back at the top of the table when they welcome Brest to Parc des Princes.Christophe Galtier will be pleased with how his side have quickly adjusted to his 3-5-2 setup since replacing Mauricio Pochettino over the summer. The former Lille and Nice boss has seen his new team win seven and draw one of their first eight competitive matches this term, scoring 30 goals and conceding only five.##EDITORS_CHOICE##The visitors are hoping to avoid a fourth defeat this season but with the form Kylian Mbappe is in at the moment, it seems inevitable. Parisians’ star striker followed up his brace in the 3-0 league win at Nantes last weekend with two more goals to help the Parisian giants edge past Juve. The Saints have won each of their last 11 meetings against Brest, a run dating back to September 2011, and should have few problems in claiming maximum points once again this weekend.Fighting it with Lens and Marseille at the top of the table, PSG are deservedly confident of extending their 15-game unbeaten run in the top flight against an out-of-sorts Brest outfit.Brest’s last season was something to smile about – the Pirates finished it in 11th place, their highest Ligue 1 finish for over 30 years. However, they have struggled to hit the ground running this term, as they have won only one, drawn two and lost three of their opening six league games.Brest’s only victory so far this season came away from home against Angers – a 3-1 win on August 21 – but their chances of success on the road this weekend are slim, as they come up against a rampant PSG side who have scored at least two goals in each of their last nine meetings against the Pirates.Galtier is unlikely to make too many changes to his starting lineup this weekend as PSG have a clean bill of health at present. Sergio Ramos, Marquinhos and Presnel Kimpembe are all set to continue in the back three while Gianluigi Donnarumma is preferred ahead of Keylor Navas between the sticks.Galtier has plenty of options at his disposal, as far as the midfield goes – Vitinha and Marco Verratti could retain their places, although, the likes of Renato Sanches, Fabian Ruiz and Carlos Soler are imposing themselves.• Most assists in 2022 (18)• Joint most assists in Ligue 1 (6)• Most dribbles in Europe’s top 5 leagues (28)Lionel Messi 🐐🇦🇷⚽️ pic.twitter.com/jJA5mOWgFd— R  (@Lionel30i) September 3, 2022 The attacking star trio Mbappe-Messi-Neymar is expected to operate in the front three – they have scored 17 goals combined so far this term. The visitors have a completely different situation – Noah Fadiga (ankle), Jeremy Le Douaron (groin), Steve Mounie (heel) and Romain Del Castillo (hamstring) all remain sidelined with injuries.Former Monaco, Lyon and Sporting Lisbon striker Islam Slimani, who has failed to score in three previous appearances against PSG, is expected to lead the line in attack.Guests’ manager Der Zakarian may decide to switch to a back five in order to counteract the threat PSG that are likely to pose.LIGUE 1 – ROUND 7FridayLens – Troyes 1-0 (1-0)/Danso 39/Saturday18:00: (1.12) PSG (13.0) Brest (25.0)22:00: (2.04) Olympique Marseille (3.60) Lille (4.00)Sunday14:00: (1.79) Strasbourg (3.70) Clermont (5.40)16:00: (3.40) Ajaccio (3.10) Nice (2.50)16:00: (2.65) Angers (3.40) Montpellier (2.85)16:00: (2.21) Lorient (3.25) Nantes (3.60)16:00: (2.35) Toulouse (3.40) Reims (3.35)18:05: (1.48) Rennes (4.70) Auxerre (8.00)21:45: (2.65) Monaco (3.50) Olympique Lyon (2.80)***odds are subject to change***
