EA Secondary School Games: Highway eager to show Kenyan might despite FIFA suspension

Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) national games football finalists Highway Secondary School are eager to remind the region of the country’s might at the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Associations (FEASSSA).Highway who booked a slot in the East Africa School Games after punching a ticket to the final of the national games following a penalty shoot out victory over Kisumu Day High School.AFC Leopards duo officially join Kenya PoliceKenya is currently serving an indefinite FIFA Suspension for government interference in football which has led to the country missing out on international action but the school games are unaffected by the suspension.High head coach Beldeen Odemba noted that Kenya hold the East African football throne and will be eager to send a message to other schools from the region.KSSSA Games: Five things learned from the national school games“Apart from the suspension, I think Kenya are kings of East African football. The suspension took us a step back but Kenya play much better than every other country in the region. We are ready and geared up, I have a strong conviction that we will perform well at the East Africa games,” said Odemba.The East Africa School Games have not been a happy hunting ground for Kenya with St. Anthony’s Kitale and Barding High School breaking Uganda’s dominance in the games.Odemba was however impressed with the coaches and players who graced the national school games adding that with sound management the players can put Kenya on the football map.“As a first timer in the national school games, I cannot say much about the quality of the games but I saw a lot of talent there. I have seen a lot of coaches work towards the development and if we set up our structures well we will tap more talent and we will see more of our players outside the country,” added Odemba.Highway have been drawn in Pool A against Kiwira Coal Mines from Tanzania, ES Gasiza from Rwanda, St Andrew’s Kaggwa and Kibuli SS both from Uganda in Pool ‘A’ with the tournament set to kick off on Saturday 17 September.
