Brothers Williams are ready to make international bows – for different countries

It’s going to be a memorable week in the Williams household. Nico Williams has received his first call-up to join the Spanish national team. He could be given a chance to make his international debut when La Furia Roja meets Switzerland on Saturday. On Friday, Inaki Williams, eight years older, will probably make his debut for Ghana against Brazil in France. They arrive having celebrated those call-ups with a 3-2 win over Rayo Vallecano.Excellent from Marca today. The words of Nico Williams on the front and the entire edition printed in black and white to “demonstrate our absolute repulsion against racism.”👏👏👌 pic.twitter.com/evKFYroN5p— Fútbol es la leche (@futboleslaleche) September 21, 2022 Nico’s call-up predictably prompted accusations that Spain called him up only as a way of blocking him from turning out for Ghana in the future. But coach Luis Enrique refuted those claims, saying he only called the youngster because of his footballing ability.”I’m not doing this to stop Nico playing for Ghana. He’s young and an exciting player. He’s playing more often with Athletic now and is progressing wonderfully. I like him enormously. We’ve had him in the junior squad and have been following him for a long time. I reckon the family will be delighted: Imagine the party if they both go to the World Cup… and they reach the final – that would be the absolute business.”##NAJAVA_MECA_6660709##Nico’s down to earth and forever thankful to his parents for literally crossing the desert barefoot so they could give him and his brother a better life. Speaking to Marca, the Athletic Club star revealed that his mother and father are delighted to see their children play the game at the highest level.”My mother Maria is very proud. She didn’t know much either because I started screaming at home, in the living room. ‘Mom, mom, I’m going to the national team.’ She came running and hugged me. She began to cry and soon my father came too. My parents are heroes, they are my idols. I wish everyone had such parents in their life, and I wish I could spend a lot of time with them.”##NAJAVA_MECA_6660549##Besides the game itself, racism has been making headlines in recent times. Sadly, it doesn’t seem to go away. Nico is one of the few who can say that he hadn’t been targeted by vile chants, comments and messages.”I think there are very good people here. Racists are very small groups that must be eradicated. Luckily, they never targeted me. But, I have seen my brother a little annoyed in that aspect. I hope that these people think and reflect on what they do so we can end racism. No one is born racist. Education at home, education at school, and I believe that little by little racism will disappear.”Spanish speaker Partey making sure Inaki Williams settles well in Black Stars camp. 👌 pic.twitter.com/EB8GKjazr1— Mirpuri🌟 (@InterBoy1908) September 20, 2022 Nico has been impressed by the high tempo of training in Spain’s camp and is ready to up his game and earn a place in the squad for the World Cup. Speaking about the tempo, the goalscorer revealed who was his footballing role model growing up.”When I was a child, I looked up to Didier Drogba. My brother liked him a lot, and he played videos of Drogba. He told me to pay attention to that player because he was very good. I was very young, but he put me highlights on YouTube, and I watched a lot to learn.”Who knows, maybe we’ll get to watch two brothers play in the World Cup for different countries – just like in 2010 when Kevin-Prince Boateng played for Ghana and his brother Jerome for Germany. This is the age of the Williams brothers.
