KPL clubs unanimously agree to abscond Transition Committee-led league

In a Kenyan Premier League caucus meeting attended by club CEOs, teams have vowed not to take part in the Football Kenya Federation Transition Committee-led league, citing squandering of resources. The meeting which was hosted at a Nairobi hotel was attended by a number of club CEOs most notably Patrick Korir from Nairobi City Stars, Gor Mahia’s Raymond Oruo, Mathare’s Jecktone Obure, Victor Bwibo from AFC Leopards and Kariobangi Sharks’ Linda Ambiyo.FKF Goal Project offices reopened after eleven monthsGor Mahia’s CEO Raymond Oruo read a joint statement by the clubs as they all agreed not to take to the field in a non-sanctioned FIFA league. “We have unanimously resolved as Kenyan Premier League clubs that the teams will not take part in any competition that is not recognized by the world governing body, FIFA because it is a waste of investment and time and very little returns coming through.##NAJAVA_MECA_6651472##What we are saying is that the 18 clubs of the Premier League have decided that we will only play the 2022-2023 season in a properly sanctioned FIFA league because that is the only way our teams and players are going to benefit,” said Oruo.The country is currently serving a FIFA suspension for government involvement in football with the world governing body revealing that the suspension will be lifted when the previous FKF regime led by Nick Mwendwa is reinstated.City Stars CEO Patrick Korir noted that teams are currently in preparation for next season but they will only commence the campaign when the league is recognized by FIFA. FKF 2022-2023 season start dates revealed“The truth of the matter is that we clubs have been preparing for next season, we have been given several kick off dates and we will probably be given several more kick off dates, we have no idea by whom…that is not for us to say.The day a FIFA sanctioned league will kick off, we will all be ready and we will get to the pitch to honour the fixtures,” added Korir.
