Good old times when Assou-Ekotto and Van der Vaart had a fight in the showers

Every football season, we come across one team in which two players want to do the same thing – shoot a penalty or take a free kick. And they have no problems quarreling like kids in front of other teammates, fans and millions of people on TV. Sometimes it ends ugly, sometimes it resolves very quickly, but then the reports about the unrest in the dressing room appear. So far this season, only the scuffle between Neymar and Kylian Mbappe and their wish to take a penalty kick was visible. And it ended up very quickly as coach Christophe Galtier publicly announced that the French forwards is the official penalty taker in the team, but the reports about two players and their broken relations remain. But, on the brighter side, they didn’t have a fight naked under shower over a penalty (yet)! Van der Vaart on #Liverpool: “I think we have become a bit blinded. We suddenly think Jordan Henderson is a crazy player. That’s just a very normal player. “James Milner is also a very normal player. Joe Gomez is also a very normal player.”— @F365 pic.twitter.com/fjZEycqYUj— EuroFoot (@eurofootcom) September 13, 2022 And that is exactly what happened between Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Rafael van der Vaart during their time at Tottenham. Former Spurs and Newcastle midfielder Jermaine Jenas was present at the time of the incident and revealed what happened during and after the game. „There was a moment at Tottenham when Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Rafael van der Vaart both wanted to take a free-kick. Rafa wanted to take the free-kick, but Benoit wasn’t having any of it and so when Benoit was ready to take it, Rafa just came up and took it on the sly! We get in, everyone is getting changed and then suddenly I hear this commotion in the showers. It’s Rafa and Benoit going at it, naked! It got stopped pretty much immediately but it just shows that these things happen a lot, just not on the pitch” said Jenas in a recent podcast. He didn’t enjoy football while it was a job, but he was still one of the bestApart from this incident, former Tottenham midfielder used to play for Newcastle under famous sir Bobby Robson and was on the pitch against Aston Villa in 2005, when Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer went against each other during the game. “I’d never experienced anything like that. The maddest thing about the whole thing was that every single morning we’d have round tables in our canteen and you’d have breakfast and lunch together. Bobby Robson was very serious about the players eating together and we couldn’t leave without his say-so. On my table every day was me, Kieron Dyer, Jonathan Woodgate, Lee Bowyer, and Craig Bellamy. We’d sit there and eat and chat every single day and got on really well. It was just a moment of madness to be honest, but our dressing room was fiery like that. At half-time, if things weren’t going well, there wasn’t like ‘let’s see what the manager has to say’, instead you’d have a player in your face telling you to sort yourself out“ remembers Jenas.  ##NAJAVA_MECA_6667966##
