Harambee Stars prospect Jonah Ayunga conceded a penalty and saw red on Saturday but his side, St. Mirren still managed to get a win over Livingston to move up to third in the Scottish Premier League.Keanu Baccus open the scoring for Mirren in the 69th minute but just seven minutes later, Ayunga did the unthinkable, clearing the ball off the line with his arm. He was shown a straight red card and a spot kick awarded to the visitors. To the striker’s relief, however, Sean Kelly missed his spot kick. With a man up, Livingston kept pushing and they finally found what they thought was a consolation or a goal that would have put them on the course of a win when Bruce Anderson found the back of the net four minutes from time. Alex Grieve would however have the final saying in the game as he scored a stoppage-time winner for the hosts to lift them up to third with 15 points, six off leaders Celtic.A hard-fought three points. What an effort! 💪#OurStMirren #COYS pic.twitter.com/US9576IxJU— St Mirren FC (@saintmirrenfc) October 1, 2022 Mirren coach Stephen Robinson was full of praise for his side after the hard-fought triumph.“It wasn’t attractive but if you are going to stay in the top six you have to win games like that and dig it out. We were better after the equaliser. We are very good at letting teams have possession and putting in crosses. When they scored we turned up a gear, passing it around, getting balls into the box. Character is the one word I would use to sum it up. It wasn’t an attractive game of football but the weather didn’t help. We matched Livingston and outbattled them, which is rare,” he said.“At 1-0 and they miss the penalty I was confident we wouldn’t concede as we work a lot on training with a man less. It was disappointing then when we did concede but we showed character to come back and win it. You can’t play well every week but you can work your socks off and that’s what they give me every week,”. Next for Mirren is an away game against second-placed Rangers on 8th October.David ‘Calabar’ Odhiambo makes winning return in Zambia after shaking off injury
