Spindly Kenya Police striker Clinton Kinanga is a man on a mission as he promises to put up impressive numbers in what will be his second season in the FKF Premier League. The former South B All Stars player has been through it all at Kenya Police, fondly remembered for his contribution in securing a seat at the high table for his club when he scored over both legs in the promotion playoff ties against Vihiga United in September 2021.A rather quiet debut season, impacted by a couple of injuries and lack of regular playing time spurs him on, to not only forcing himself back into Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo’s starting eleven, but to setting a personal best in his offensive output for the 2022/2023 FKF PL season.Earlier today we played a friendly match against Kenya Police FC, which ended in a 2-2 draw.⚽️| Jackson Macharia and Shaphan Oyugi were on target for us while Clinton Kinanga and Davis Simiyu were on target for the law enforcers. pic.twitter.com/j18NoqCNL6— 🏆Tusker FC (@tusker_fc) March 26, 2022 “Last season was a topsy turvy season for me as I was in and out of the squad with injury. I will definitely get an opportunity in the new season having recovered in time.” Offered Clinton.Though fully aware of Pamzo’s plan to stick to the same squad that saw his side lift the inaugural Elite Preseason Cup with a 2-0 victory over Nairobi City Stars on Saturday, Kinanga believes that it is in the few names that occupy a place above him on the strikers’ pecking order that he gains motivation to be better every day.“The more the strikers in our team, the more the competition for places exists. That, according to me, makes us better.” He added.Having gathered lots of praise from his former coach Bobby Ogolla late last year, Kinanga is hopeful that he kicks off the league on a similar high tempo to get ahead of his mates. The tall forward will be expected to battle hard against David Simiyu and Elvis Rupia for a starting role in central attack.OFFICIAL | Clinton Kinanga scored the winning goal as Kenya Police FC defeated Vihiga United 1-0 at Utalii Grounds, and 2-1 on aggregate, to seal promotion to the FKF Premier League for the first time ever in their history.#FKFPL pic.twitter.com/hGw0RylldX— vumaSPORT (@vumaSPORT) September 19, 2021 On his personal targets, Clinton hopes to hit the 15 goals mark in the season having not notched double digits last season. He however mentions that a golden boot might not be a far-fetched goal, with it being in the pipeline as a future projection.Drawing inspiration from the prolific Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, Kinanga insists that with seemingly similar physiques, pace and commitment, goals will be easy to come by.Also important to him was the new style of football that his coach Sammy Omollo is bringing to the club;“I think it will be easy for us. He [Sammy Omollo] wants the ball to always be on the ground and that is how everyone wants to play. That could only mean more opportunities for us to score.”
