EUROPA LEAGUE: Manchester come from behind to win in Cyprus

For 53 minutes, current Omonia and former Celtic coach Neil Lennon was hoping that he might be able to pull the mega surprise in the Europa League and defeat (or at least draw) against mighty Manchester United, but his dreams were shattered by two substitutes, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, who scored in the space of 10 minutes and prevented an embarrassment in Cyprus: Omonia – Manchester United 2-3. Still, coach Erik Ten Hag cannot be happy with tonight’s display, as the Red Devils were losing for almost an hour, they allowed two sloppy goals and Cristiano Ronaldo, who played the whole match failed to score. 1 – Having been introduced at half time, Marcus Rashford has become the first Manchester United substitute to both score and assist in a UEFA Europa League match, with this their 47th game in the competition. The guests were dominant in the first half, as expected and had three good chances but wasted them all. Fernandes hit the crossbar in the 16th minute, Antony’s long shot was brilliantly saved by Omonia keeper and the Brazilian had another good chance but opted to pass the ball to Fernandes instead of shooting himself. The punishment came at the end of first half, when Malacia was left as the only player in defense after a Manchester corner. He lost the ball and Omonia players went into a counter attack from which Ansarifard scored the first goal of the game.Ten Hag introduced Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford at halftime and the latte got a fantastic deep ball from Fernanades, turned his defender around and put a perfect shot into the bottom corner for the equalizer. Bruno Fernandes left the field in the 62nd and in the 63rd minute, his substitute Anthony Martial used a good assist from Rashford, came in to the penalty area and finished calmly for the total turnaround. United’s players than totally relaxed and played the way they know, and when Ronaldo missed two chances to increase the lead, he assisted to Marcus Rashford who tapped in from 3 meters for 3-1. But Omonia managed to score a quick goal minutes later and gave Ten Hag and United’s bench an uneasy 5 minutes until the end of the match.
