This is the game Anthony Modeste will remember for as long as he lives! The big striker came of the bench for Borussia Dortmund with his team seemingly dead and buried in a Bundesliga classic against Bayern at home. He missed a golden chance to make it 2-2 late on, before doing so with the last touch of the game, deep in added time. Bayern inexplicably dropped two points while Dortmund celebrated what felt like a 2-2 victory.Borussia Dortmund allowed Bayern to go 2-0 ahead before they started playing as well as they can, but it was enough to give us a memorable game on Saturday night.Leon Goretzka and Leroy Sane put the champions in the driving seat before a late rally from the hosts, and a Youssoufa Moukoko strike set up a dramatic ending. Modeste could have levelled seven minutes before time, but there was still a chance. And there was an unlikely reward for the striker who was only signed as a replacement for the ill Sebastien Haller. In a game dubbed the German Clasico or Der Klassiker, it was the home side that started off better, even though it didn’t get any real chances. It was a high-energy affair at Westfallenstadion, but most of the action happened between two boxes. However, the travelling horde of around 8,000 fans got a goal to celebrate. Leon Goretzka threaded a low shot through the box and into the low corner of Alexander Meyer’s net after Jamal Musiala embarked on another of his excellent runs.Sadio Mane was suddenly presented with a glorious chance to double the lead shortly after the break, but he couldn’t direct his header on target. There was great work from Goretzka to set up the chance for the Senegalese star. There was no escape for Dortmund just three minutes later. Former Bayern man Niklas Sule, now playing for BVB, diverted a ball into the path of Leroy Sane, who launched a ferocious left-footed effort into the top corner. Meyer got his hand on it, but the ball had too much power on it, and it ended up in the net.Dortmund coach Edin Terzic threw Karim Adeyemi on for Salih Ozcan, but the game had already felt beyond the yellow-blacks’ reach. The Bavarians looked in control and more than willing to use any opening created by Dortmund’s attacks to mount a potentially deadly counter-attack.Julian Nagelsmann instructed his players to put midfielder Jude Bellingham under immense pressure, thus limiting his creative output. But it was another Terzic’s substitute who made a difference. Anthony Modeste controlled a ball on the left-hand side of Bayern’s area and laid the ball of for Youssoufa Moukoko to take a touch before stabbing the ball past Manuel Neuer. All of a sudden, BVB were back in the game, and the Yellow Wall grew even louder. It was a lucky break for the hosts, though, because Goretzka fired a thunderous drive just wide just a few minutes earlier. Had it been on target, the match would have ended there and then. But the boys in yellow were presented with a chance to fight for a point. And fought they did.The ten-times consecutive champions let their concentration level drop when they conceded the first goal, opening space for another. They allowed Adeyemi to create a perfect chance for Modeste. The pacy winger escaped Josip Stanisic and squared perfectly for the former Koln attacker. However, he inexplicably miskicked the ball and wasted the best chance he could possibly have. At that point, it looked like a nightmare game for him. But to his credit, and the credit of his teammates, they never stopped going.Nico Schlotterbeck managed to keep a ball in bounds and cross it into the crowded Bayern box. That man Modeste was on the far post arriving to head it into the net and create an explosion of black and yellow in Dortmund. It was 2-2! Final whistle! What a game! What a night!
