Who’s gonna stop City?

The 2022/23 Premier League title is Manchester City’s to lose. The Sky Blues hammered Southampton 4-0, of course, and Erling Haaland scored again, of course, to take the top spot in the league and put pressure on Arsenal to win on Sunday.Southampton goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu must have had little sleep last night, knowing that his job on Saturday afternoon would be to try to stop Haaland and friends from scoring. He failed, of course – but he’s just one of many this season.Joao Cancelo reminded of his last season’s top form with a sublime solo goal to give Pep Guardiola’s team the lead less than 20 minutes into the game. He danced around the onlooking Saints’ defence and found the bottom corner, leaving Bazunu with no chance.Bazunu, who was on Manchester City’s books just a few months ago, didn’t enjoy his return to the Etihad one bit. He somehow denied Phil Foden, but only for a couple of minutes. The tricky England international used a fantastic pass from Kevin De Bruyne and lifted the ball over the poor goalkeeper to make it 2-0.When Riyad Mahrez volleyed in to finish off another great team move, it was clear that City would win again. But the question was – is Haaland going to score? He’s already hit the post and missed a couple of half chances by then – somthing that he hasn’t done often. But he did grab a goal, of course. The alien/Norwegian/robot/cyborg (depends on who you choose to believe) got his 20th goal in all competitions this season on in the first half of October. He slotted a Cancelo cut-back past Bazunu and made it 4-0. Imagine if he hadn’t scored today. It would surely make the news.City are now two points above Arsenal, who will have a chance to get back to the top – albeit against a powerful Liverpool side. The title race is picking up pace – and so are the Cityzens.Elsewhere, Patson Daka scored a great poacher’s effort away at Bournemouth to give Foxes the lead. At that point, Leicester City looked like they were going to build on their 4-0 win over Nottinham Forest last time out. But Brendan Rodgers’ problems haven’t disappeared overnight. Bournemouth fought back and scored twice in the second half to turn the game around and reached eighth postition in the table when most predicted they would struggle down in the relegation zone.PREMIER LEAGUE – MATCHDAY 10SaturdayBournemouth – Leicester 2-1 (0-1)/Billing 68, Christie 71 – Daka 10/Chelsea – Wolves 3-0 (1-0)/Havertz 45+3, Pulisic 54, Broja 90/Manchester City – Southampton 4-0 (2-0)/Cancelo 20, Foden 32, Mahrez 49, Haaland 65/Newcastle United – Brentford 5-1 (2-0)/Guimaraes 21, 56, Murphy 28, Almiron 82, Pinnock 90 og – Toney 54 og/19.30: (2.90) Brighton (3.25) Tottenham (2.70)Sunday16.00: (2.24) Crystal Palace (3.40) Leeds (3.60)16.00: (1.84) West Ham (3.70) Fulham (5.00)18.30: (2.70) Arsenal (3.40) Liverpool (2.80)21.00: (3.60) Everton (3.50) Man.Utd.
