Newly elected Kisii governor Simba Arati has promised to ensure that Gusii Stadium is available for use once again after over two years of closure.The stadium, which plays as the home venue for National Super League side Shabana and Division One sides Gusii Starlets and Resolution Kisii, has not hosted any sporting activity since March 2020 when former President Uhuru Kenyatta announced its immediate closure to allow for renovations.WEEKLY BUZZ: Hope for revival of inert Kenyan football, +254 still the marathon addressDue to the facility’s unavailability, Shabana were forced to stage their home games either at Awendo Stadium in Migori County or William Ole Ntimama Stadium in Narok while Gusii Starlets played their matches at Sameta and Nyatieko playing grounds.However, following the latest assurance from Arati, the clubs can now breathe a sigh of relief ahead of the upcoming 2022/2023 season where the county boss has vowed to deliver on his promise after a meeting with Shabana officials and other sports stakeholders from the region.“We are involving all sports stakeholders, among them former sportsmen and women, in reviving sports in this region.
