Kenyan striker Jonah Ayunga featured for St. Mirren in Saturday’s barren draw against Kilmarnock at the SMISA Stadium. The striker, who missed last weekend’s 4-0 drubbing by Rangers through suspension was named in the starting XI by coach Stephen Robinson before he was taken off in the 69th minute. Ayunga’s suspension was a result of a red card he saw in the game against Livingston after he cleared the ball off the line using his arm.##NAJAVA_MECA_6724249##Against Kilmarnock who had lost all their away games this season, Mirren were second best all round and were fortunate to salvage a point from the game. Coach Robinson admitted that the visitors deserved all three points from the duel.“It certainly wasn’t a classic and I have to be honest and say we didn’t perform today. Killie probably deserved to win the game,” he told the club media.Goalkeeper Trevor Carson stood tall between the posts denying the visitors endlessly, his performance caught the eye of his coach.“Carson gets us a point today. His two saves were fantastic. He’s an international goalkeeper so we expect that from him but that’s why we brought him to the club. We owe him the point today,” he added.FULL-TIME: St Mirren 0-0 KilmarnockThe points are shared. #OurStMirren #COYS pic.twitter.com/ltdzdoaEcA— St Mirren FC (@saintmirrenfc) October 15, 2022 The draw denied them a chance to go third and the tactician opined that only two or three players showed up for the game and expects better from them next time.“When you have eight or nine players not at the top of their game as we had today…you can carry one or two but not eight or nine. They’re a group of honest boys and they accept that. They know they can be better than that. For whatever reason, they didn’t perform to their best levels today.”Next for Ayunga and Mirren is a home match against Dundee United on Saturday 22nd October.
