When everything is good for his Liverpool, when brilliant games, victories, and trophies are lined up, it is difficult to find a more charismatic man than Jurgen Klopp on the football map of the world. On the same map, it is equally demanding to find a more angry, upset, passive-aggressive, and cynical football expert than… well, the same Jurgen Klopp when the Reds start to hiccup, lose derbies, and drop points. Then the whiteness between the chin and the nose, the roaring laugh, and the sense of humor make way for the sullen face, the unpleasant tone, the willingness to argue with the press in a gentlemanly manner, and the ability to comment on other rival’ dealings and business plans. Once again, before the start of the season in the Premier League, Manchester City and Liverpool were seen as the main favorites to win it, with the fact that while the Citizens, led by the unstoppable Erling Haaland, are harassing their opponents, Liverpool have only 10 out of a possible 24 points. Klopp himself has recently written his team off from the title race (another safety cushion for future failures?) but this game could really end destroy hopes even for the most optimistic Reds fans. The last time Manchester City visited Anfield as overwhelming favorite. You just can’t write off Liverpool when Anfield is the venue. pic.twitter.com/b80UH34WAD— Rahman osman (@iamrahmanosman) October 16, 2022 Off course, you can never rule out an unlikely win for any team against the favorites (just look at Arsenal’s season so far), and three points from the only unbeaten team in the league could be a turning point for the Reds and Klopp. But until that happens, we will still have to listen to the German’s rants about the strength of other teams and even put Newcastle United into the story”Nobody can compete with City. You have the best team in the world and you put in the best striker on the market. No matter what it costs, you just do it. I know City will not like it, nobody will like it. What does Liverpool do? We cannot act like them. It is not possible. There are three clubs in world football that can do what they want financially. It’s legal and everything, fine, but they can do what they want. I heard now that at Newcastle somebody said ‘there is no ceiling for this club’. Yes! He is right. He is absolutely right. There is no ceiling for Newcastle. Congratulations, but other clubs have ceilings” said Klopp, clearly forgetting the fact that Newcastle’s coach Eddie Howe talked about ’no ceiling’ strictly in terms of results on the pitch, not the financial power. But, everybody knows anyway that there is no ceiling for Klopp’s excuses either. After giving up on the title race, Klopp claims: Nobody can compete with Man CityAccording to Tranfermarkt, the Reds have spent around 700 million euros on getting new players in the last 10 years (Klopp has been the manager for the last 7), and just in the last transfer windows, he bought Nunes, Diaz, and co. for 82 million pounds, not including 42 for Luis Diaz in January. And the results? Of Liverpool’s 12 games in all competitions so far this season they have conceded the first goal in eight of them – Fulham, Crystal Palace, Manchester United, Newcastle, Napoli, Brighton, Arsenal, and even Rangers. And from those eight games, they have gone on to take 11 of 24 points – three wins, two draws, and three defeats. 3F is the formula for City’s successCity are unbeaten in all competitions and have only conceded the first goal twice this season – at home to Crystal Palace and Borussia Dortmund. Both times they turned those games around for wins. Guardiola will also be aware that City failed to beat Liverpool in three meetings last season, with two high-quality 2-2 draws followed by an FA Cup semi-final loss at Wembley, and then another defeat in this season’s Community Shield.„I had the feeling always in Anfield we have played really well. In other games, maybe in the last two games we were a little bit soft for different circumstances. You have to win duels. When they push you, you have to push. When they are there, you have to be there. The semi-finals of the FA Cup, it was tough to recover the incredible effort we had done in Champions League“ said Guardiola. The Norwegian giant racked up 20 goals and 3 assists in 13 games in all competition for the Citizens, and there is no doubt that he will look forward to this game and eventually silence the Anfield crowd with a goal or two.
