It’s the same old story. Attack, waste your chances, get punished. Liverpool succumbed to a 2-1 loss at home to Leeds United on Saturday night despite controlling the ball for most of the night. The visitors’ determination and inspired goalie Illan Meslier kept Leeds in the game and allowed young Crysencio Summerville to become the hero of Yorkshire. From the early stages, this looked like one of those cursed games for the Anfield team. Joe Gomez made a mistake under pressure and played a back pass for Allison. Much to their and Jurgen Klopp’s frustration, the Brazilian goalkeeper slipped in the worst possible moment, letting the ball roll perfectly for Rodrygo to apply the easiest of finishes. Just four minutes into the game, the Whites were ahead. But the home team was always going to dominate this match against Jesse Marsch’s under-fire Leeds and it took them just ten minutes to find the equaliser. The visitors failed to clear Andy Robertson’s left-hand side cross and Mohamed Salah made them pay, prodding past Meslier. With just a quarter-hour gone, you’d think that Liverpool would go on and pummel their opponents. But even though they tried, it wasn’t straightforward at all. In fact, frustration grew all over Anfield until the only logical outcome arrived – the Reds were hit by a late sucker punch and left empty-handed.A mixture of poor finishing and Meslier’s shot-stopping put Klopp’s team in an awkward position. At 1-1, they threw everything at the visitors, but the boys in white jerseys showed a new-found grit and determination – something that was painfully absent from their game since the start of the season.Substitute Wilfried Gnonto created havoc among Liverpool defenders and found Patrick Bamford. The latter tried to shoot, but made a mess of it. However, it was a happy accident that gave young Dutchman Summerville to power forward and give his team the lead in the 90th minute!Liverpool were brutally punished for their inability to turn possession into goals tonight. They are nowhere near the level they were last season. At this rate, they will struggle to make one of the Champions League spots come the end of the season, let alone pushing for the title.PREMIER LEAGUE – ROUND 14SaturdayLeicester – Man City 0-1 (0-0)/De Bruyne 49/Bournemouth – Tottenham 2-3 (1-0)/Moore 22, 50 – Sessegnon 57, Davies 73, Bentancur 90+2/Brentford – Wolves 1-1 (0-0)/Mee 50 – Neves 52/Brighton – Chelsea 4-1 (3-0)/Trossard 5, Loftus-Cheek 14 og, Chalobah 42 og, Gross 90+2 – Havertz 48/Crystal Palace – Southampton 1-0 (1-0)/Edouard 38/Newcastle – Aston Villa 4-0 (1-0)/Wilson 45+6 pen, 56, Joelinton 59, Almiron 67/Fulham – Everton 0-0 Liverpool – Leeds United 1-2 (1-1)/Salah 14 – Rodrigo 4, Summerville 90/Sunday16:00: (1.24) Arsenal (6.75) Nott.Forest (14.0)18:15: (1.70) Man.Utd.
