Cabinet Secretary for Sports Ababu Namwamba started clearing his in-tray a day after being sworn into office by engaging FIFA, the world’s football body, over the prevailing suspension of all football activities in the country.In a post on his Facebook page on Friday night, the former lawmaker said he phoned the Zurich-based organisation with a view to find a solution to the impasse.Sensational Namwamba hints at changing law to curb doping”On my day 1 in office today I engaged FIFA on the phone to commence the process of resolving the impasse that has seen Kenya banned by the world football governing body. Government is committed to returning Kenyan football to normalcy in sync with the rule of law and public good,” he wrote.FIFA suspended Kenyan football over third party interference in February this year after Ababu’s predecessor Ambassador Amina Mohammed disbanded the Football Kenya Federation, FKF Executive and installed a Caretaker Committee in its place.Amina acted after an audit returned a damning report of alleged corruption and mismanagement at Kandanda House.##NAJAVA_MECA_6767370##Former FKF president Nick Mwendwa was arraigned thereafter with several counts of corruption. The case is still active.The Caretaker Committee, later Transition Committee, however, left office without clearing the mess, and installing a new office as they were mandated, leaving the future of Kenyan football in darkness.Ababu promises to end government standoff with FIFA over FKF with immediate talksWhile expelling Kenya from its fold, FIFA demanded reinstatement of the previous office and re-opening of the Kandanda House. None of the conditions have been met.
