Harambee Stars centre back Joash onyango has once again been nominated for the player of the month award in Tanzania.Onyango who had a torrid start of life in the campaign after falling out of coach Zoran Maki’s favour has been selected to contest for the October’s best player. The hard-tackling defender will face off with the club’s combative midfielder Mzamiru Yasin and Ghanaian forward Augustine Okrah for the award.##NAJAVA_MECA_6767670##Onyango who joined the Tanzanian giants in August 2020 from Gor Mahia has been on top of his game since regaining his place in the starting team. The 2019 Kenyan Premier League’s Most Valuable Player saw limited game time in the start of the season and when frustrations got the better of him, he requested to leave. The hard man grappled with lack of game time as coach Maki preferred to partner Congolese national Henock Inonga and Mohamed Ouattara at the heart of the defence. ##EDITORS_CHOICE##However, Onyango’s tides changed for the better following the exit of Maki in September barely 67 days after taking over the reigns. The departure of the Serbian tactician paved way for former Coastal Union tactician Juma Mgunda who reinstated Onyango back to the first team at the expense of Ouattara. The partnership between Onyango and Inonga has been flourishing under Mgunda with the individual performance of the former Western Stima earning the recognition of the sponsors of the monthly award.Last year, Onyango won the award in April. He was included in last season’s team of the campaign.
