Muhoroni Youth edged Gor Mahia 1-0 in a friendly match played at a soggy Muhoroni Stadium on Saturday afternoon.Returnee Yusuf Juma settled the game with a fine header in the 52nd minute, sending the home fans into a frenzy.The entire first half of the encounter was characterized by heavy rains that compromised the flow of the game. The rains however subsided in the second stanza giving room for better action.Muhoroni Youth, showed more promise in the second half creating better scoring chances, which yielded the only goal of the game through full back Yusuf Juma, who is returning to the Youth team.Speaking after the match Gor Mahia coach Johnathan McKinstry appreciated the experience, saying it was a good learning opportunity for his young charges.”I looked at the weather patterns today, and did not anticipate the heavy rains. However it was a good outing, and a further test for my boys as we approach the league resumption,” the former Uganda Cranes coach said.His equal opposite Jeff Odongo could not hide his joy after what he considered a big win. “As you know Gor Mahia is a big team so beating them at home is a great morale booster for my team as we prepare for the Kenyan Premier League relegation and promotion playoffs.”Muhoroni Youth were handed a lifeline by the Sports Dispute Tribunal, SDT and are expected to play the Kenyan Premier League relegation/promotion playoffs match against Wazito FC.This will nonetheless depend on whether the controversial 2021/22 KPL will stand.Dubbed “Cohesion friendly match” the Muhoroni Youth versus Gor Mahia match was intended to bring the communities living within the Muhoroni area together following the highly contested August General Elections.Muhoroni town was one of the adversely affected areas by post elections clashes of 2007 and 2013. Despite remaining calm during this year’s polls, there’s an air of unease prevailing.
