Harambee Stars lethal marksman Michael Olunga has made a telling revelation of how he gave up the chance of joining French giants AS Monaco during his teenagehood days just to get to complete his high school education first before anything. At the time, the Harambee Stars captain, who currently plies his trade at Qatari top flight outfit Al Duhail, got an opportunity to join the French side’s academy that has produced world beaters like Arsenal and France legend Thierry Henry and current football sensation Kylian Mbappe among others but turned down the opportunity just to pursue his studies.⚽️⚽️⚽️❤️Keep working pic.twitter.com/G3El7xmFSH— MICHAEL OLUNGA (@OgadaOlunga) September 27, 2022 Being a student at Upper Hill High School at the time, the former Gor Mahia man ended up scoring an A-(minus) in his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) before joining the Technical University of Kenya (TUK) where he pursued a Degree in Geospatial Engineering as he played in the local league.“A move that was so close but never really happened is when I was in high school. Two weeks to the KCSE exams, I got an offer to join the Monaco under 18 side. Everything at the time was ready so I had to choose between the KCSE exams and going to Monaco.Olunga lays hands on the Golden Boot in first full season in QatarBut I could not let four years of education go just like that because I knew I was going to do well in the examinations. Of course, however badly I wanted this opportunity to go to Monaco, I could not take it. I knew something greater was in store for me and I just needed to unlock the situation so I had to chose KCSE over going to Monaco but it is a decision I never regret,” the player revealed in an interview with NTV’s Sport On.Following the unfamiliar path Olunga chose, considering that most Kenyan footballers would not think twice about their education, the Kenyan international, who is an engineer by profession, urged local footballers to change their mentality and consider giving priority to the studies the same way they do to football.Happy Mashujaa Day🇰🇪 pic.twitter.com/StbbMXw03S— MICHAEL OLUNGA (@OgadaOlunga) October 20, 2022 “It is something (education) which I will also advise other football players. Education will play a bigger role in your football journey and they need to complement each other.Maybe if I chose Monaco at the time I could not be able to do the other things that I do in life because I went there. But at the end of the day, football will always be there but you have to seize the moment and opportunity with education,” he said.##NAJAVA_MECA_6798262##
