The Spurs crisis is continuing and there is no end in sight. Antonio Conte’s men were looking to bounce back after a defeat to Liverpool last time out, as they have lost three of their last four Premier League games, but they were again red-faced, this time in League Cup. Antonio Conte fielded a strong team against last placed Nottingham Forest, but the home team, which made a number of changes in the squad, still prevailed, won comfortably and got a huge morale boost. In north London, Arsenal also lost, but at home against De Zerbi’s Brighton, and this defeat will hurt the Gunners, since they could have gone deep into this competition.4 – Danny Welbeck is the first player to score at Arsenal’s Emirates stadium with four different clubs (Man Utd, Arsenal, Watford & Brighton). White, Partney, Saka and even keeper Turner were left on the bench, and only Saliba kept his place after a 1-0 win over Chelsea, even thou he got the call from France coach Dechamps earlier tonight. And it was the young keeper, the 20-year old Karl Hein, a third choice goalie from Estonia who made a mistake and brought down former Gunner Danny Welbeck in the penalty area. Arsenal were leading 1-0 already, after a goal from Eddie Nketiah, but Welbeck made it 1-1 in the 27th minute and that was the beginning of the end for the home team. Arteta’s men had the possession and were in the game for the second goal, but Brighton were ruthless finishers tonight and with two clinical finished turned the game around and won it 3-1, with the goals from Kaoru Mitoma and Tariq Lamptey. Jesus, Zinchenko and Xhaka (among others) were introduced in the second half, but it was too late, the defeat was inevitable.
Not only did Spurs lost to bottom placed Forest, but they were soundly beaten by the team who currently has only two wins in the Premier League. The Foresters produced two goals, at least three fantastic chances and over 8 shots on target, while in Spurs team only reserve keeper Forster was worth mentioning, as he saved three big chances and prevented a catastrophe. Steve Cooper’s players attacked from the first minute, and chances were coming every few minutes. Awoniyi, Lingard (twice) and Worrall all tried in the first half, before former Atletico Madrid left back Lodi put Forest up front in the 49th minute. But the home team continued to attack and after a clear chance from Surridge. Lingard found his way and scored the second goal of the game. Conte brought on Richarlison, Gil and Kulusevski, and the Brazilian scored, but was penalized for offside. Mangala got a red card for the home team, but the Spurs were so bad, they didn’t even manage to score with one man advantage. More than a deserved defeat for Tottenham.ENGLAND – LEAGUE CUPTuesdayBournemouth – Everton 4-1 (1-0)/Lowe 7, Stanislas 47, Marcondes 78, Anthony 82 – Gray 67/Brentford – Gillingham 1-1 (1-0)/Toney 3 – Mandron 75/Bristol City – Lincoln City 1-3 (0-2)/Conway 80 – Virtue-Thick 6, House 15, O’Connor 49/Burnley – Crawley Town 3-1 (1-1)/Barnes 24, Zarouri 70, 90 – Telford 22/Leicester – Newport 3-0 (1-0)/Justin 44, Vardy 70, 82/Milton Keynes Dons – Morecambe 2-0 (1-0)/O’Hora 18, Dennis 51/Stevenage – Charlton 1-1 (1-0)/Norris 22 – Aneke 87/WednesdayArsenal – Brighton 1-3 (1-1)/Nketiah 20 – Welbeck 27(p), Mitoma 58, Lamptey 71/Newcastle – Crystal Palace 0-0Nott.Forest – Tottenham 2-0 (0-0)/Lodi 50, Lingard 57/Southampton – Sheffield W. 1-1 (1-1)/Ward-Prowse 45+2(p) – Windass 24/West Ham – Blackburn 2-2 (1-1)/Fornals 38, Antonio 78 – Vale 6, Diaz 88/Wolverhampton – Leeds 1-0 (0-0)/Traore 85/Liverpool – Derby 0-0Man.City – Chelsea 2-0 (0-0)/Mahrez 53, Alvarez 58/Thursday23:00: (1.62) Man.Utd.
