Retired Harambee Stars custodian gives advice to upcoming players

Former Harambee Stars goalkeeper David Okello, who recently announced his retirement from active football after an incredible eighteen seasons in the top flight, has advised youngsters wishing to join the elite ranks of the game to give their all in training in order to get the extra edge over their peers in their professional life.Since officially starting out at the now defunct Thika United in 2004, after being nurtured at Mathare United’s youth systems, the 37-year-old called time to his career before commencement of the 2022/2023 Football Kenya Federation Premier League following stints that saw him ply his trade at Tusker, Sofapaka, Mathare United and KCB.David Okello is the new Sofapaka goal keeper’s coach. The difference comes in the moment someone puts something extra in their training. That is when you win.##NAJAVA_MECA_6816154##So it is only hard work and giving your best in training that will give a player the chance to play at the top level,” the retired goalkeeper told Mozzart Sport.Having already stated that giving room to upcoming players was his main reason for hanging his boots, Okello has a perfect chance to groom the stars of tomorrow as he was immediately announced as the new goalkeeper coach for Sofapaka where he played from 2012 to 2015.Is Gor Mahia’s pre-season form a thing of concern? With the new season set to kick off this weekend, the former Tusker custodian will be tasked with producing the best out of the quarter of Mathias Kigonya, Kevin Omondi, Simon Masaka and David Obasanjo who will all be jostling for game time when the campaign starts.
