Nearly three years since its closure for renovation, Gusii Stadium will finally host its first match on Friday when Shabana take on Kwale based side SS Assad in a National Super League (NSL) encounter.The stadium, which plays as the home venue for NSL side Shabana and Division One sides Gusii Starlets and Resolution Kisii, has not hosted any sporting activity since March 2020 when former President Uhuru Kenyatta announced its immediate closure to allow for renovations.Due to the facility’s unavailability, Shabana were forced to stage their home games either at Awendo Stadium in Migori County or William Ole Ntimama Stadium in Narok while Gusii Starlets played their matches at Sameta and Nyatieko playing grounds.However, speaking during an interview on Tuesday, Kisii County Governor Simba Arati confirmed that the regional facility was ready to once again host sporting activities.”I am happy to be the bearer of good news for sports enthusiasts.
