McKinstry not interested in vacant Harambee Stars job

Gor Mahia’s Northern Irish head coach Johnathan McKinstry has committed his immediate future to the record Kenyan champions insisting that he wants to build a long-lasting project that will help the club become an even better team inside and outside the boarders of the country as he seeks to end their two-year title drought during his tenure.Speaking to Mozzart Sport, the head coach, who has massive international coaching experience following his stints with the Sierra Leone, Rwanda and Uganda national teams, made the declaration on the back of various reports linking him to the currently vacant Harambee Stars job.In his own admission, the 37-year-old stated that his current focus is on helping the 19-time champions get back to their glory days that saw them lift the Kenyan Premier League title seven out of the eight seasons between 2013 and 2020, consequently ruling out the Harambee Stars job at the moment but leaving the door open for future developments.“If I was offered the opportunity to coach the Harambee Stars in the short and medium term, the answer will be no. My main aim for coming here was to win with K’ogalo and once I have done that and created something lasting over the next three years or however long that I will be here, then maybe it can be something to be considered.##NAJAVA_MECA_6870982##You never rule anything out because football is like a river so you never know where it is going to twist. In the future who knows, maybe five years from now, who knows? But if tomorrow I am told, I would not take it,” the head coach disclosed to Mozzart Sport. On his part, McKinstry, who is on his first season with Gor Mahia in the 2022/2023 Football Kenya Federation Premier League, stated that he will play his part in helping the national team by getting the best out of his players.“I think my job here at K’Ogalo is to help the Harambee stars because I guarantee you, you do not know their names yet, but some of these young boys who we are breaking into this team will go on to be the focal point of the national team over the next decade. There are players training here who are 18, 19 and 20 years of age who have the potential to play over seventy times for the team. The best thing I can do now for Kenyan international football is to develop that next generation that will help move the team forward and I will do that whilst winning in the green of K’Ogalo. Then five years from now, who knows. But for today, I will always be here to help in any way by providing advise and players but currently it is about Gor Mahia,” the head coach added.Kenyan female referee lands officiating role in 2023 Women’s World Cup Play-off tournament
