The 974 is dead. Long live the 974!

How cushty would it be if only we could do it in our lives. Pick up all those ‘boxes’ we’re made of, hundreds of them, dismantle the whole thing and rebuild it from scratch somewhere else. Be the same, but totally different simultaneously.Rise up as an oasis in the middle of a desert one day, meet a whole new world of people, customs and cultures. Shine there for months, and after the lights go off, return to non-existence. And start from the beginning once more, God knows where. Probably Africa. They say man’s soul weighs 21 gram, and we don’t know how many ‘boxes’ are in there but let’s imagine there are 974 of them. Then all makes sense. Then there would be no demolition but deconstruction. And rebuilding afterwards.🏟974 Stadium in Qatar is currently being dismantled. pic.twitter.com/jVEhY8hXlE— Shaban Mohammed (@ShabanMo9) December 7, 2022 That’s precisely what is happening – as you read this text – with Stadium 974 in Qatar. This temporary venue, made from 974 recycled shipping containers, is being dismantled. It hosted matches during the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup and the 2022 FIFA World Cup (seven of them, with the Brazil-South Korea Round of 16 tie). The 44,089-sitter was constructed on a 450,000-square-metre waterfront site. It got its name for both containers and the international dialling code for Qatar (+974).How incredible..The 974 Stadium in Doha is almost completely dismantled afterhosting the match between Brazil and South Korea on Monday. Here’s a timelapse of when it was being builtpic.twitter.com/7XLNVuITDk— Thomas Mlambo (@thomasmlambo) December 9, 2022 So, what’s next for the ‘former’ 974? The containers and super-structure will be reused in some other place. It was originally expected that the reassembled stadium would go to Africa, but there are suggestions it may go to Uruguay, where it may be used for the 2030 FIFA World Cup if the Uruguay-Argentina-Chile-Paraguay bid succeeds.Seven matches and 21 goals later – it’s time to move on both for us, and for the 974.QATAR 2022 WORLD CUP1/4 FINALSFriday 22.00: (3.50) Netherlands (3.15) Argentina (2.35)Saturday 18.00: (6.00) Morocco (3.60) Portugal (1.70)22.00: (3.15) England (3.20) France (2.50)***odds are subject to change
