Denmark beat Lazium 2-0 to win the third edition of the Rashid Abdallah Super Cup on Sunday 11th December at the Waa Primary School in Kwale. For the win, Denmark bagged Sh1 million while the runners up Lazium got Sh200,000 from leading gaming firm Mozzart Bet who sponsored the whole tournament to the tune Sh1.5 million. Kwale Governor Hon Fatuma Achani was among the dignitaries that graced the finals. She urged the youth to use the prize money wisely. “The money appears much now but it actually isn’t so spend it wisely. Engage in incoming generating projects in the community and I will definitely help you by topping up the prize money,” she said.Media Personality Rashid Abdallah who is the brainchild behind the tournament revealed plans to renovate the Waa Primary School Grounds. “I have spoken to various partners who have been impressed with the tournament and we have plans to renovate the pitch to ensure teams within this area have a standard pitch to train on and play their matches even after this tournament,” Rashid said. Rashid also said five youngsters scouted from the tournament have landed full scholarships. “Five players that we will reveal later will receive full scholarships to university level from our various partners. This is why we do this tournament – to expose the talent in Kwale and Coast in general and ensure they get life-changing opportunities.” Mozzart Bet Kenya Marketing Manager Frank Ochieng was left impressed with the quality of players in the tournament and the love of football in the region.“I thought it is only in Western Kenya where people are really crazy about football but I was wrong – people here love the game and there is massive talent. Rashid and the organisers have done amazing job for the community and we are ready to continue supporting this initiative.” He said. The tournament had two other categories – the open and wazee and according to organisers, the plan is to expand it further in future.
