FIFA hands AFC Leopards a lifeline, clears four to play

AFC Leopards have been handed a massive boost after FIFA cleared four of their players who have missed the opening three matches of the season to feature against Posta Rangers on Saturday.Ten of Ingwe’s players have not featured in the opening three matches of the season due to a transfer embargo that was slapped on the club by FIFA last year after the club went on to register players without settling dues that they owed to their former foreign players contrary to FIFA directive. The ten missed matches against Ulinzi Stars, Tusker FC and Sofapaka. This resulted in the team’s new signings being frozen out by FIFA. The ten players that are yet to feature include those that were signed during the 2021/22 mid-season window and some that were promoted from the club youth team. The ten are; Emmanuel Lwanga, Ronald Sichenje, Loren James, Victor Otieno, Aboubakar Musha, Nester Olum, Cliff Nyakeya, Josphat Lopaga, Victor Omune, and Musa Oundo. After being in constant communication and negotiating with FIFA for weeks, Ingwe have now been allowed to field the players that were signed during the off-season window. They are players that led to Ingwe being sanctioned by FIFA when they were fielded against Kenya Police FC in March. The four are; Cliff Nyakeya, Josphat Lopaga, Victor Omune, and Musa Oundo. The ten AFC Leopards players that will miss tomorrow’s game against Ulinzi Stars are: Cliff Nyakeya, Josphat Lopaga, Victor Omune, Musa Oundo, Emmanuel Lwanga, Ronald Sichenje, Loren James, Victor Otieno, Aboubakar Musha, and Nester Olum.#FKFPL pic.twitter.com/llGS8rc6lc— Ole Teya (@Kevin_teya) November 18, 2022 “We have some good news for our fans. We have been in constant communication with FIFA and FKF and we are glad that we have made some progress and the coach will now have more options on the pitch,” club secretary general Gilbert Andugu told Mozzart Sport. The administrator added that they are also seeking to have the other six players from the youth team registered as soon as possible.“We are not going to rest, we will engage FIFA and FKF to have the young boys registered and we are hopeful that in the coming week we will have all our players apart from the injured available for selection,” he added.Ouma confident of Sofapaka ending winless run against Ulinzi
