Mathare United have gauged their preparedness for the 2022-2023 Football Kenya Federation Premier League season with a 4-3 win over Kenya Police on Saturday morning. The slum boys are set to kick off their season albeit belatedly next week with a clash against Nzoia Sugar at the Kasarani Stadium. The 2008 league champions are not the only outfit that will start their season late as the duo of Wazito and Vihiga Bullets also find themselves in a similar situation. The three clubs had been barred from taking part in the competition in the past rounds as they had been listed in a case at the Sports Disputes Tribunal. Mathare who have managed to patch up a team largely made up of experienced players got their goals through Congolese forward Donald Ange, former Wazito winger Curtis Wekesa.Former City Stars attacking midfielder Augustine Kuta and former national U20 team attacker Chris Owino were also on target for Mathare. Police found the back of Mathare’s net through Clinton Kinanga who helped himself with a brace with Duke Abuya adding the extra from the spot. Police elected to play Mathare in the test match as their weekend league fixture against Bullets has been pushed forward. The club turned to the services of former Tusker assistant coach Francis Baraza after parting ways with coach Samuel Omollo who left hardy two rounds into the season. Police kicked off their campaign with a 1-0 loss before suffering a defeat of a similar margin against Kakamega Homeboyz in the following round.Their third game ended in a barren draw against Bandari.
