CAF President lauds African teams’ performance in Qatar, promises more goodies

CAF President Patrice Motsepe has lauded the five nations that represented the continent at the just concluded 2022 World Cup in Qatar, saying they did a good job.Of the five, only Senegal and Morocco made it out of the group stage. Cameroon, Tunisia, and Ghana went out at the initial stage. The Atlas Lions went on to become the first African country to reach the semis before they were bundled out by the losing finalists, France.##NAJAVA_MECA_6903572##All the five nations managed at least a win at the tournament and Motsepe has lauded them saying the continent is proud of their outing in Asia.“The 54 African countries who are members of CAF are extremely proud and inspired by the victories and successes of the five African Nations that represented CAF at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. We are also particularly proud of Morocco’s historic qualification to the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. It is the first time in the history of the FIFA World Cup that an African Nation has qualified for the semi-finals.,” he told CAF’s website.The South African football boss reserved some praise for the Atlas Lions of Morocco for setting a record in Qatar.“I would like to express our deep gratitude to the players (Les Lions de l’Atlas), the technical team, the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football under the outstanding leadership of President Fouzi Lekjaa, the people of Morocco and His Royal Highness King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him. Our objective of ensuring that an African Nation wins the FIFA World Cup is alive and within reach.”He added that the good performance of the five nations is an indication of the strides that the continent is making in football development adding that CAF will continue to invest in football from the lowest level.“We are making significant progress in ensuring that African football is self-supporting and globally competitive. This is partly reflected by the outstanding performances by Morocco, Senegal, Cameroon, Tunisia and Ghana at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. We are also making good progress on the African Super League and announcements in this regard will be made in due course,”.CAF’s focus now shifts to the 2023 CHAN in Algeria.
