Kakamega Homeboyz head coach John Baraza says he does not have the right caliber of defensive midfielders in his team and that is the reason that he has been fielding central defenders to screen the back four in the last six matches.Homeboyz have defensive midfielders such as Meshack Muyonga, Estone Esiye, and Sunday Mutuku in their books but Baraza has been working with two central defenders in that defensive midfield role. John Otieno has featured in five matches in that position and on Wednesday it was the turn of fellow central defender George Odiwuor to put in a shift against AFC Leopards at the Nyayo National Stadium.##NAJAVA_MECA_6900541##Asked why he has opted to use make-shift holding midfielders, Baraza explained that he does not have the type of players that he wants in that position but is happy with how his central defenders are performing in that position.“At the moment I am short on personnel in that position. I do not have the type of players that I want and so I thought it is better to play with defending in mind than to play with somebody who is not playing as per what you want and that is why I am fielding central defenders in that position. Jojo (George Odiwour) and Otieno are the same kind of players and I think they are filling in well,” he stated.Leopards hide claws against Kakamega:AFC Leopards 0-0 Kakamega HomeboyzLeopards pick one point in three matches#JKLive @WaihigaMwaura pic.twitter.com/ru6KlCdrHz— Citizen TV Kenya (@citizentvkenya) December 21, 2022 On Wednesday against AFC Leopards, his forward line looked blunt and it is something that he hopes does not recur.“I agree, against AFC Leopards my strikers were not present at all throughout the 90 minutes but in the past matches they have been playing well and I hope that it is just a one-time thing, I hope it will go away fast enough so that they will be okay in the next game. We are going to work with them,” he added.Next for Homeboyz is a home match against Kariobangi Sharks on 4th January 2023.McKinstry outlines Gor Mahia’s mid-season transfer plan
