Why St. Mirren captain let Ayunga take missed penalty

St Mirren skipper Mark O’Hara has explained why he allowed Kenyan striker Jonah Ayunga to take a penalty that he eventually missed against Aberdeen in the 3-1 win league win on Saturday.O’Hara has already converted two penalties although one was eventually credited as a goalkeeper’s own when they were awarded a third. He had an opportunity to find the back of the net from the spot but opted to hand the ball to Ayunga who had been sensational in the game.##NAJAVA_MECA_6905701##Aberdeen had gone ahead in the 9th minute through Matty Kennedy. Kelle Roos’s own goal then leveled the scores after Ayunga got Aberdeen right-back, Anthony Stewart sent off in the 35th minute for fouling him after he has dispossessed him. O’Hara converted from the spot in the 53rd minute and nine minutes later, he passed the ball to the Kenyan who was not successful from the spot. Gre Kiltie then scored the third deep into stoppage time. The captain explained that having taken two spot kicks, he opted to hand the striker the ball as he fancied it and thought that he would have fresh ideas on how to convert.“I looked at Jonah and he pointed to himself. I just felt it was better to go with a fresh idea. Jonah fancied it and I thought it was a good idea to mix it up rather than the goalie and me and having mind games,” he said in an interview with scotsman.com.The win elevated St. Mirren to sixth in the table with 24 league points.
