FC Koper’s Sports director, Ivica Guberac, has revealed why the Slovenian club signed highly-rated Kenyan attacker Wilkims Ochieng on a two -year deal until the summer of 2025.The former Club Brugge player was all but set to sign for Belgium’s third-tier side Pastro Eisden on a short-term deal but made a turn around after Koper made an approach.Ochieng’ was unveiled at the club on Tuesday, becoming the club’s second signing who have already brought in 19-year-old left winger Vid Koderman from Maribor.Kenyan attacker joins top side in SloveniaSpeaking during the presentation of the Kenyan, Guberac revealed that they took the opportunity to bring in the youngster with a consideration of where he has been previously as well as him having turned pro at a tender age.”There was an opportunity to bring a young football player to Koper who has a quality football school behind him. Also due to the fact that he already had a professional contract at such a big club at that age, I did not hesitate and came to the conclusion that he would still be able to progress in Koper. It gives me pride and joy that young players from football-developed countries and big clubs want to join our team,” the sporting director said as quoted on the club’s website.The 19-year-old played for Belgium’s U16 side in 2018 while aged 15 years, featuring in four friendly matches in the U16 category against Denmark, Portugal, and Germany twice, managing to score once against Germany.However, he is still eligible to feature for Kenya’s Harambee Stars, and was handed a call up to the national team’s provisional squad that was in camp for the World Cup Qualifiers against Uganda and Rwanda.
