Arsenal fans in Kenya through their various supporter groups are set to hold prayer days in various churches starting this weekend. Among the agendas is praying for the club (Arsenal) as well as their other annual activities. Arsenal Kenya Nairobi Branch Chairman Anthony Kiarie aka Tiki The Brand confirmed the same to Mozzart Sport. “We, Arsenal fans in Kenya, have many branches. I am the chairman of the Nairobi branch and our prayer day is set for Sunday 15th January. We have other branches that will hold theirs this Sunday. Actually most branches host their annual prayer days every first Sunday of the year,” Kiarie revealed. We meet as members, pray for the club and all our other activities that we intend to do in the year. The prayer day is just one of the events that we do but we have so many other activities like charity runs, football tournaments, get togethers with other East African supporter club amongst other activities,” “We have been to Rwanda, Tanzania and later this year we are planning to link up with all the other Arsenal Supporter Groups within East Africa in Uganda,” he added. This is not England but in Kenya were Arsenal fans were dancing during the national prayer day.Why is European football hugely popular in Africa. While local league teams play in almost deserted stadia? We have charity runs that benefit the less privileged in the community and so many other activities that do good to the local communities despite the fact that it is our love for a club in England that has brought us together,” “The main problem with local football is disorganisation. Arsenal sends original merchandise to us every year, magazines, scarfs and many other things. We feel appreciated and loved by the club that we support. The club plays attractive football and still markets itself globally and therefore we just automatically align with it. I wouldn’t say the same for local football clubs,” ##NAJAVA_MECA_6929868##”Local teams don’t do any sort of marketing. We don’t know know where to buy their merchandise if they have any, it is difficult to get any valuable information and to be honest you wouldn’t compare the quality between the two leagues (KPL and EPL). Fans just want to be entertained and this is something the football leaders need to work on to ensure the local leagues attract fans just like the foreign leagues,” he added. Arsenal currently seats top of the EPL standings with 44 points from 17 matches and one of the prayer items by the club’s fans in Kenya will definitely be that the fine form persists. ##EDITORS_CHOICE##
