Union Berlin have extended the contract of captain and defender Christopher Trimmel until at least the summer of 2024, the club announced on Sunday.The Austrian defender, who joined Union in 2014 from Rapid Vienna while the Berlin side were in the second division, saying at the time “they are building something here, with thought and care”.Promoted to the Bundesliga at the end of the 2018-19 season, Union have impressed in the top division, finishing fifth in 2021-22 and qualifying for the Europa League. ##NAJAVA_MECA_6929400##This season they sit in fifth place, having led the table in September and October. The news was made public at 10:28 am German time, referencing Trimmel’s jersey number (28) and the fact he will now play at least a tenth season for the club.
