Kempes: Poor leadership, corruption killing Kenyan football

Former Kenyan international Sammy ‘Kempes’ Owino says football in the country has derailed for years because of poor leadership at the helm of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF).There has been a tussle in Kenyan football for over a year now over the control of the game. In November 2021, former sports CS Amina Mohammed disbanded the federation and installed a temporary committee to run the game, a year later his successor Ababu Namwamba restored the federation but this time under vice president Doris Petra as president Nick Mwendwa continues to battle alleged corruption charges in court.##NAJAVA_MECA_6929223##Some stakeholders are keen on having fresh elections this year and have been pushing FIFA to have a normalization committee to pave way for fresh elections soonest. The former midfielder, now based in the US has been in the country for the last few weeks and has attended several football tournaments, particularly in the Nyanza region.Regarded as one of the best midfielders the country has ever produced, Kempes is reportedly keen on taking over leadership at FKF when the polls are conducted next year has lamented over the poor state of the game at the moment and believes that there needs to be a change in the management of the game at all levels.🟢<<<REWINDON THIS DAY in 1979, Sammy Owino ‘Kempes’ lone goal helped Gor Mahia beat Guinea’s Horoya in first leg of Africa Cup Winners Cup semi-final. Without proper vision in management, it becomes very difficult to build anything at the bottom and so we need to have people at the top that believe in making things better, have a vision, and are willing to do the right thing ” he said in an interview with KTN.Another issue that he believes is killing the game is cultural corruption which has affected nearly all sectors of the Kenyan economy.”I think we also have a cultural issue, in that how do we fight corruption at all levels and Kenyan football is not different and if we get people who are willing to work without being corrupt that will go a long way, “.Kamau notes growth in his Posta side
