Bad blood flows even after a good game

Violence at football matches is often something we like to associate with the past. The highly-polished television production of the English Premier League does its best to lead us into believing that football matches there are top-quality sporting spectacles with a lot of passion – and zero bad blood – surrounding them. But that’s not true.Tottenham are facing an FA, and police investigation after a supporter kicked Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale at the end of a fiery north London derby. Richarlison could also find himself in hot water for pushing Ramsdale in the face after Arsenal’s 2-0 victory, which ended with the two sides needing to be separated.Absolutely disgusting how Aaron Ramsdale is treated in this video. @FA Protect your players. pic.twitter.com/9K9HDway55— george (@StokeyyG2) January 15, 2023 Ramsdale had celebrated in front of the South Stand, sticking out his tongue and pointing at then kissing the badge on his shirt. He attracted the ire of the Spurs substitute Richarlison, with whom he clashed. Then, with players from both teams converging and the goalie heading off to retrieve his drinks bottle, a Spurs supporter jumped onto the hoarding behind the goal and aimed the kick.Tottenham vowed a stadium ban and ‘the strongest possible action’ after studying CCTV footage to identify the attacker.”We are appalled by the behaviour of a supporter that attempted to attack Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale at the end of today’s match. Violence in any form has no place in football. The club has reviewed its CCTV footage to identify the supporter and will be working with the Met Police, Arsenal and Aaron Ramsdale to take the strongest possible action, including an immediate ban from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.”##NAJAVA_MECA_6945025##Speaking to the media after the derby, Ramsdale explained that his altercations should have remained on the level of a healthy, long-standing rivalry. But not everyone has the ability to keep their head after seeing their team beaten.”The Spurs fans gave me some throughout the game. I was giving some back. The people I did give it to greeted it sportsmanlike, but one fan tried to give me a little kick. It is a shame as it is just a game of football at the end of the day. Both sets of players tried to bring me away, but thankfully nothing too drastic happened. It is a sour taste.”Aaron Ramsdale vs Spurs pic.twitter.com/05UNdlH8lW— AboVardy (@iskaholic) January 15, 2023 The guy who thought it was a good idea to kick Ramsdale will probably only watch his favourite team on TV from now on. And the rivalry will be even fierier now that another chapter has been added to it. Bad blood will flow again.
