Sommer it is! Bayern going for Borussia’s keeper, second bid rejected

When Bayern and Germany’s number one keeper Manuel Neuer broke his leg in a skiing accident in December, the quest for the new keeper began instantly. But here we are more than month after, and no goalie has come yet. Neuer is ruled out until the rest of the season, but Bild made a new report, stating that the Bavarians are actually hiding the true extend of his injury. While the first reports were suggesting that it was a fracture of the lower leg, the Bild report says that Neuer actually suffered an open fracture of the tibia and the fibula, which is an injury with a far longer timetable for recovery.❗️Excl. News #Sommer: Negotiations and a lot of talks between M‘Gladbach and Bayern in the last days! We‘ve been told and confirmed that Bayern has offered €8m fixed + €1m bonus payments today but Gladbach said NO !!! All in from Bayern, but Gladbach rejected. @SkySportDE 🇨🇭 pic.twitter.com/FZ7iVYbBQL— Florian Plettenberg (@Plettigoal) January 16, 2023 The first logical choice for Bayern was too look for their original number 2 – Alexander Nubel, seen as Neuer’s long term successor. But he realized that Neuer could play for a number of years and didn’t want to sit on the bench, so he was loaned to Monaco until June 2023 Bayern tried to get him earlier and negotiated with the French club, but failed. His agent Backs confirmed to Sky Sports Germany that the deal was off and that his client will remain in Monaco. So, the reserve option just became the first option – Yann Sommer. Why is Bayern Munich interested in Gladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer?Take a look 👀 pic.twitter.com/BWVVEYhdi4— DW Sports (@dw_sports) January 10, 2023 The excellent Swiss keeper is Borussia Monchengladbach’s captain but is also near the end of his contract and had thought about his career for some time. Replacing Neuer (36) with Sommer (34) doesn’t seem like a long term investment, since Bayern’s injured keeper hasn’t talked about retirement at all, but Bayern doesn’t have a lot of options, especially with PSG duel in the Champions League on the horizon. Bundesliga champions however has a lots of money, and that is why they are willing to give as much as 9 million euros for a keeper who might not be their number 1 option come September 2023. They offered 5 million at first, but Monchengladbach turned that down also.‘Sign the contact or we go separate ways’But the problem is – Borussia has rejected it. This looks quite remarkable, since Sommer’s contract is up in the summer and he won’t renew. So, the Foals are risking losing their captain for nothing, and all reports are saying Sommer is tightlipped since the club promised him that they will negotiate with Bayern. Monchengladbach bosses want to get as much money as possible, as they know the Bavarians need their goalie now, not in the summer. On the other hand, they won’t sell him even for more money unless they find a replacement.##NAJAVA_MECA_6955200##So far, Sommer’s countryman Jonas Omlin has been their target number one, but his club Montpellier has been reluctant to let him go. New reports suggest they have finally agreed, but since they brought him from Basel in 2020 for 6 million euros, they certainly want more money, and that could be the reason why Borussia wants more money from Bayern. So far the deal has not been reached, but history suggests that when the Bavarians want a player who is in the Bundesliga, they get him in the end.
