Football Kenya Federation acting President Doris Petra has challenged more women coaches to take up coaching courses offered by the federation and earn their badges.Her call came on Friday in Nairobi West during the closing ceremony of the recent CAF D level course that saw more than 200 coaches across the country graduate, with only a handful of women coaches taking part.Trailblazing tactician urges football fraternity to trust female coachesFor instance, in the Nairobi West station, only five out of the 61 participants in the course were women with men taking up the largest number with 56, an equivalent of 92 per cent.“These courses are not just for men. Women’s football is a priority for us; we need to build a stable of women coaches to work with our girls to grow the women’s game which has immense potential,” she said.##NAJAVA_MECA_6966943##Petra went on to add that there is need for the federation to build capacity on the coaching front, noting that the current number needs to be taken up four times if the country is to be ready for the World Cup.The CAF D coaching course is the entry level coaching qualification recognized by CAF and is recommended for grassroots coaches and the recent course was offered across the country in Rumuruti, Webuye, Nairobi West, Mombasa and Thika.”We have now trained 5,400 coaches at this level but the truth is not enough, to become World Cup ready we need about four times this number,” she added.
