On paper, National Super League side Kisumu All Stars FC is sponsored by the county government of Kisumu. Yet, in reality, things are different. In a long Facebook post, the team is calling on well-wishers to come to their aid to enable them to honor their match at Mombasa on Saturday against Mombasa Elite. In an embarrassing revelation, the team’s management says that they have not been paid since September last year, despite offering their services.Kisumu All Stars ‘wasted’ but happy with Assad free walkover points”Since the beginning of the season, we have faced a very difficult time due to lack of finances. The team has given its best even minus any payment since September 2022. The boys have been given a target to get promotion this season, but this can’t be achieved if they give walkovers,” the statement reads. In support of his colleagues and to underscore the dire situation, Vincent Otieno, a player, and businessman said.##NAJAVA_MECA_6974796##”I have been with the players for about four months now. I must say these boys are heroes. Some go through stuff you can’t imagine. From outside you can say all sorts of things. But when you’re within, you will understand. Kisumu as a county can do better. No need for these boys to suffer like this in the name of sports/soccer. We demand a lot from them yet so little or rather none is given to them. These players are heroes in this county. One day I will share with you their real life stories. Meanwhile, let’s help the team travel to Mombasa.”To ensure they honor the weekend fixture the team, including the cash-starved players and management have raised amongst themselves Ksh 30, 000, but it is not enough. Gor Mahia seeking to continue dominance over Talanta”To make their intention clear, the playing unit, coaching staff and the CEO have raised among themselves 30000 to help with traveling to Mombasa but this is a drop in the ocean thus our request to our leaders in Kisumu County and well-wishers to chip in and help the team travel. We are in the meantime looking for partners and we are open to talks to help the team not be relegated.”On Sunday, Stars benefitted from a walkover after their opponents from Mombasa SS Assad FC failed to make it to Kisumu. The team is placed tenth on the log after six games with nine points from two wins, three draws, and a loss.
